Paris Attack, April 20, 2017

The attack occurred on the Champs-Elysees in Paris at 9 pm on April 20.  One police officer was killed, two were seriously wounded.  The gunman is believed to have acted alone and to have purposely targeted the officers guarding the Franklin Roosevelt subway station.  The gunman was killed. ISIS quickly took credit for the attack. ,

This particular terrorist attack is likely to have stronger consequences than previous ones.  Here are the astrological reasons why:

On April 20:

Pluto turned Stationary Retrograde.  A planet’s power is increased when it is stationary (appearing to stand still).  Think, immovable object.  Among other things, Pluto rules loss and death.

Mars at 29 Taurus conjoined the Uranian Planet Admetos.  Both form square aspects to the Nodal Axis and the August eclipse point of 29 Leo.  Venus at 27 Pisces, now moving direct, formed a square aspect to Saturn at 27 Sagittarius.

Among other things, Mars represents guns and war; Admetos, hindrances and death.  In Uranian astrology the Nodes are considered a personal point, as important as the Sun, Moon, or Ascendant.  While the eclipse at 29 Leo does not take place until August, it is not unusual for events relating to eclipses to take place earlier than the eclipse itself.

Mars transits are triggers for eclipse points.  So the potential for violence with these planetary combinations is clear.  29 degrees of Leo is also Donald Trump’s Ascendant.  (I’ve written about this eclipse earlier, see https://joycelevine.com/JLcycles.html.)

In addition, 27 degrees of Sagittarius is the Galactic Center, a black hole in the middle of the Milky Way. Events that take place when outer planets transit this position have a greater effect on the world.  (Think Pluto’s transit in 2007 and 2008 and the worldwide financial crisis.)

This attack occurs only a month after the terrorist attack in London. The Brexit vote had already indicated a strong anti-immigration stance in England.  British Prime Minister Theresa May has already called for early elections to give her a greater mandate for her positions.

French elections start on Sunday, April 23 and end on Sunday, May 7.  Of the eleven candidates running, four are considered the front-runners.  According to CNBC, recent polls indicate that the centrist and independent candidate Emmanuel Macron will win the first round with 24 percent of the votes, closely followed by the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen with 21.5 percent of the support; the conservative candidate Francois Fillon, third with 20 percent; and the far left Jean-Luc Melenchon, fourth with 19.5 percent.  Marine Le Pen, the far right candidate, is running on an anti-Muslim, anti-immigration platform. This attack has the potential to bolster Le Pen’s popularity which had been declining.

A number of astrology charts for France (countries can have more than one chart) show 25 degrees of cardinal signs to be particularly sensitive degrees:  25 Capricorn Rising in the First Republic chart, Pluto at 25 Aries on the 2nd Republic chart, Uranus at 25 and Mars at 27 of Cancer in the 3rd Republic chart, and 25 Cancer Rising in the 5th Republic chart. The Vichy government chart had 27 degrees of Sagittarius Rising. (Data from Nicholas Campion’s Book of World Horoscopes)

Transiting Uranus is now at 25 degrees of Aries and Mercury (still Retrograde) will exactly conjoin it on April 28.  So France’s elections are taking place with Mercury Retrograde conjoining Uranus at this degree.  More disruptions and surprising outcomes can be expected.

At the same time, the progressed Midheaven of the European Union (EU) chart in Taurus has formed an opposition to the natal Mars and Pluto and progressed Pluto.  These aspect were exact by degree in June 2016 when Britain voted to leave the European Union.  The EU is likely to be controversial in France as well - and France is Europe’s second largest economy.

Even if Le Pen does not win the election, it’s unlikely that her influence will decline.
